Noshir Mody's An Idealist's Handbook: Identity, Love and Hope in America 2020

Dick Metcalf, Contemporary Fusion Reviews

Highly inventive memorable jazz Noshir Mody – AN IDEALIST’S HANDBOOK:

A couple of years have gone by since I reviewed jazz guitarist Noshir’s uplifting “A Burgeoning Consciousness“, and his July, 2020 release is even better.  You’ll get a real taste of just how highly inventive and memorable the jazz he and his fellow players (Kate Victor (Vocals), Mike Mullan (Alto Saxophone), Benjamin Hankle (Flugelhorn), Campbell Charshee (Piano), Yuka Tadano (Double Bass) & Jarrett Walser (Drums)) create as you watch this video for “Illusions Grow“, from the album...don’t hesitate for even a moment – be sure to SUBSCRIBE to Noshir’s EthniFusion YouTube channel, where you can watch LOTS of other performances.

Samples aren’t available right now, but I can tell you (for sure) that Noshir’s upbeat guitar work and the lively vibe of all the players on the excellent opener, “Radha” (Prosperity, according to Google translator), will set your mind at ease and help you envision the goal of the album… “to save the world with awesome music“!  This beautiful song is right at the top of my list for 2020!

I predict that the 5:58 “Rise” will be a favorite for jazz DJ’s around the globe in 2020… Kate’s vocal just shines, and will put the listener in the right reflective mood right away… a very hopeful song, something we all need in these disturbing times.

Of the ten tantalizing tunes offered up, it was easy to make my choice for personal favorite…  “Ol’ Splitfoot” features some stunning guitar solos from Noshir, then right at the 3:00 mark, evokes some mighty joyful memories for me… GREAT changes in this piece!

I give Noshir and his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.98 for this fine release.  Get more information on Noshir’s website.
